Interior Architecture

A Community and Cultural Centre at Phibsborough Shopping Centre, Dublin 7.

The importance of threshold spaces in respect of public space and public buildings has been long argued by the likes of Jan Gehl and Herman Hertzberger. Following the idea that architecture is, in essence, space delimited by boundaries, the political and social impact of how these boundaries are constructed and imposed affect and impact on the everyday experience of citizens that encounter them daily.

This thinking along with other related theories which are explored in my thesis subject “Everday Transitions: Elevation of the everyday through transitional spaces in architecture” form the basis of the design approach which seeks to amplify the porosity of the building in addition to facilitating human connection through transitional spaces thereby improving integration in a physical and social context.
