‘Looking Towards the Sun' embarks on a journey by assembling fragmentary moments from the past and present. This body of work combines a personal archive of images with contemporary photographs captured using the same film camera from the artist's childhood.
The result creates a constellation of imagery that allows us to explore aspects of memory, youth and queer identity. Drawing from his encounters as a queer individual, Conn navigates the complexities of being a young member of the LGBTQ+ community while maintaining a steadfast gaze toward a brighter tomorrow.
Through the photographic lens, Conn is interested in the ways in which personal experiences can inform our collective understanding.
