In the Summer of 2021 the Hill of Howth in Dublin, was left in the wake of unprecedented gorse fires. Returning to the 1940’s local practice of wild grazing, a goat herd was introduced to the landscape. Under the stewardship of their herder, Melissa, they perform a crucial role, preventing the threat of fires. As these grazers roam the landscape, their voracious appetite for gorse acts as a natural deterrent to potential future fires. Their symbiotic relationship with the land fosters a harmonious pact with nature itself. Through their presence they remind us of our responsibility to safeguard the beauty that surrounds us. Join us in celebrating the silent guardians of Howth.
