“What came Before” is an A/W 25 collection that represents the repercussions of forgotten culture and traditions from bygone Ireland, and intends to restore Irish heritage craftsmanship. Traditional Aran cable knitting skills passed down from the designer`s Grandmother are incorporated into each look. The moody, dark colour palette reflects our rugged landscape in tones of granite grey and speckled heathers. A mix of chunky hand-knit and fine machine-knit pieces have been created in collaboration with Donegal Yarns, and the beautiful vernacular tweeds were supplied by Magee 1866 fabrics, making this collection both locally sourced and biodegradable. Silhouettes are oversized but contemporary in rich, bumpy textures that draw inspiration from old farm workwear and the landscapes they were built on. The branding is unique-written in both English and Irish (“as Gaeilge”), highlighting the beauty of the Irish language and wishing to preserve it while also focusing on sustainability and reviving heritage textiles.
