Aideen Gannon’s Portrait

“Still Near” is a slow fashion made-to-order collection aimed at women in their 20s. My collection is inspired by life after death, an area I am very interested in, specifically looking at people’s beliefs in messages from the other side. Many people believe that Cardinal birds bring messages from loved ones who have passed, so colours and silhouettes come from the Cardinal colours of red and black and shapes are from their beautiful wings. A love of reading has also informed my research, particularly the book series Lockwood and Co. by Jonathan Stroud which explores ideas of what happens when we die. The name “Still Near” comes from the awareness that those who we have lost are still in our hearts and memories. The fabrics were chosen to be soft and comforting to the wearer in natural cottons and jerseys. This collection is for young women who are open minded, independent and spiritual.
