I am the Director of Photography for “Left Unsaid”, a sentimental reflection upon the tough choices we all have to make, a story about leaving your home and the people you love to find your true-self in life.
Being the cinematographer for this project meant I was able to portray the director’s vision with my technical abilities, passion for colours and natural lighting. I am proud to present a story filmed mainly based on the actions of the actors rather than their dialogue.
The simplicity of the frame managed to achieve the emotional feeling and internal struggles of the characters, and the use of mirrors in the film helped to portray youth and emotional unease but also the duality and the reflection of self-identity. The harmony between the use of light and camera angles guided the audience emotionally through the story. From colourful and strongly lightened scenes, we gradually shift to muted tones and natural light to symbolise the isolation of the main character.
Drawing inspiration from films about bittersweet melancholy and the impact of first love, I hope that “Left Unsaid” will resonate with young audiences who are still trying to find their true place and meaning in the world.
