The project consists of the redevelopment of the Kodak building in Rathmines. The existing building will be redesigned into a childcare facility for children between 1-6 years old. Constructed in 1932 during the Art Deco era, this building is one of only two Art Deco Structures in Dublin and is a protected structure. The space will enhance the importance of facilitating for children with disabilities, in particular sensory needs. Spaces that facilitate children’s needs can reduce the stress and exhaustion they may encounter, and offering rooms that stimulate the different senses will contribute to this. Thus, the concept is about exploring the senses to enhance their development and learning experience. The project considers children’s ergonomics and features a playful palette with vibrant colours and wood elements to ensure a comfortable and suitable environment for their development and well-being.
