For this project, I've investigated repurposing the Ballyroan Library into a rehabilitation centre tailored to support children in their recovery from physical injuries. My concept was a play with shadow and light. The inspiration derived from the benefits of natural light as well as how children interact with fun shapes and colours. The new design has been made with open spaces focusing on natural light and materials to create a calming space for all patients entering the building and sustainable design choices go hand in hand with this. The colour palette for each space has been chosen for its psychological properties and how they would affect the children. Throughout the project, universal design principles have been prioritised to ensure inclusivity for all injured children. The design incorporates features to accommodate parents accompanying their children, ensuring their comfort within the space as well.
