Thea Rustad’s Portrait

For this project, I have explored social spaciousness, by transforming a warehouse-looking retail store into a vibrant youth centre catering to the local community on the north side of the city. The initiative stems from the ‘Reach Out’ Report conducted by YPAR, which highlighted the challenges in engaging with the youth in this area. One of the primary objectives has been to ensure inclusivity by offering a diverse range of amenities and activities and secure accessibility to all. Drawing inspiration from the building - the concept emphasizes connectivity – between areas, light, the community, and the outdoors. By using raw materials, bright colours, greenery, and soft lighting, the centre fosters an inviting and dynamic atmosphere conducive to youth engagement. Additionally, sustainability has been a main factor in creating a long-lasting space both physically and socially, enduring a centre for generations to come.
