Claragh House, built in the 1890s in County Donegal, is a protected structure that presented unique design challenges. Rather than demolishing or altering its distinctive features, my approach focused on preserving and incorporating its existing details into the new design. The project aims to repurpose the building into a boutique hotel that offers a one-of-a-kind hospitality experience. My design concept embraces the rustic exterior of the house and extends this style into the interior, maintaining a connection to the land and Irish tradition, particularly the cultural bond with horses. To reinforce this theme, the materials and colour palette are inspired by the equestrian world. The intention is to create a calm, welcoming atmosphere that feels like home while providing the comfort and services of a hotel. The design emphasizes the importance of nature and freedom, offering guests a serene, authentic environment that reflects the natural beauty of its surroundings.
