Glacadh Leis Centre, an independent extension of the National Maternity Hospital, is dedicated to providing a supportive and nurturing space for new parents and their new-borns during the postpartum period. Inspired by the Domino Midwifery Care Scheme, the Centre offers a holistic approach to postpartum care, seamlessly integrating medical support with emotional well-being. The Centre repurposes Gleeson’s Townhouse, a former hotel and bistro-pub in Blackrock, transforming it into a welcoming sanctuary. Inspired by the concept of Phases, it reflects the layered transitions in postpartum recovery, early infant development, and the evolving history of the building, ensuring a cohesive environment that supports both physical healing and emotional connection. The Centre integrates four functions: hospitality, healthcare, leisure, and office spaces. By merging a sustainable, universal, and human-centred approach, Glacadh Leis Centre fosters a sense of security, community, and renewal, honouring the past while embracing the new beginnings of parenthood.
