The historic protected building Dame House located at Dame Street Dublin 2 is currently part of The Mercantile Hotel. The proposal involves the change of use to a multifunctional space, meeting Dublin City Council directions on Affordable Housing. The proposal includes three main functions: Student living, a community green roof space and a public library facility. The project promotes academic and cultural collaboration between students of domestic and international origins in its diverse urban location. Sustainable insulation and hidden infrastructure upgrades accompany historical interior preservation as part of updates that will bring universal access features to the building. Modern students can access dormitories and study areas together with dining facilities inside the building which features a library space that bridges university residents with city citizens. The proposed vision both enables cultural cohesion through diverse exchange and will create improvements for both educational and social aspects of Dublin.
