My project transforms the Forty Foot Pub in Dún Laoghaire into a wellness centre shaped by the theme “Senses of the Sea.” The concept is rooted in my family’s history of emigration and influenced by time spent travelling through coastal places where the sea shapes identity and daily life. Dún Laoghaire Harbour, once a departure point for many leaving Ireland, becomes a backdrop for reflection and reconnection. The centre invites users to explore the emotional experience of emigration through a journey guided by the senses. It is a place to slow down and engage with the sound of the waves, the smell of salt air, and the ever-changing light of the harbour. The space encourages turning inward and creates an opportunity to reconnect with memory, place, and identity. It offers a moment to consider where we come from and how those journeys continue to shape who we are.
